Ngan F. Huang, PhD, Associate Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Stanford University will present "Extracellular Matrix Modulation of Microvascular Regeneration."Abstract: The laboratory of Dr. Ngan Huang investigates the interactions between cells and the surrounding extracellular matrix (ECM) microenvironment for engineering vascularized tissues to treat tissue ischemia or injury. In this talk, Dr. Huang will highlight the role of ECM properties, including biochemical, mechanical, and biophysical patterning modulate biological processes such as endothelial differentiation, survival, angiogenic capacity, and endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition. These strategies are applied towards 3D modular bioprinting and the treatment of peripheral arterial disease. Together, these examples illustrate the importance of cell-ECM interactions for engineering cell fate, vascular regeneration, and tissue morphogenesis.
