Description

Join us for an interactive NAVBO online panel, “Ethical and Effective Use of AI,” on January 27, 2026 from 1:00–2:00 PM ET, organized by the Growth and Enrichment Committee. This dynamic roundtable will bring together experts such as Mitzy Cowdin, Ph.D., Scientific Officer, NAVBO; Adam Lin, Ph.D. Adjunct Professor, Columbia University; and Aristotelis Tsirigos, Ph.D., Professor, NYU Grossman School of Medicine,  to discuss how artificial intelligence is reshaping the research landscape. Our panelists will share insights and spark conversation on:

  • Appropriate use of Generative AI
  • The impact of AI on scholarly writing and grant applications
  • Risks of research misconduct and fraud facilitated by AI
  • How academic organizations can foster trust and accountability
  • Practical, responsible use of AI in day-to-day research: data analysis, hypothesis generation and integration with experimental workflows
  • Skill-building and training: what trainees should aim to learn about AI to remain competitive
  • Limits of current AI systems: how to recognize and mitigate these risks in biomedical research

Expect an open, thought-provoking dialogue designed to help trainees and investigators navigate both the opportunities and challenges of AI in science.
