Description
Join us for our next webinar with Kathleen Caron, Ph.D. Professor and Chair, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Caron will present "Meningeal Lymphatics in Migraine Pathophysiology."
Abstract: Chronic migraine is a condition with significant morbidity that affects approximately 35 million people in the US, with women being 3 times more likely to suffer from migraine than men. Although there have been recent advances in a new class of migraine drugs, we lag in our knowledge of the cell types that respond to these drug treatments or why women are predominantly affected by migraine. Our recent research shows that the meningeal lymphatic system, in response to calcitonin gene related peptide (CGRP), is a key contributor to migraine pain. CGRP elicits changes in meningeal lymphatic drainage and immune cell interactions that ultimately govern migraine pain. Future studies are focused on providing detailed molecular interactions that regulate meningeal lymphatic permeability and flow during migraine.
